Central heat pump or wall-mounted heat pump:

How to choose your system?

Air-source heat pumps (the most popular), use the difference between the temperature of the outside and inside air to cool or heat your home, consuming little energy. This ingenious system has proven efficiency, and provides substantial energy savings. It is thus the ideal solution for reducing your ecological footprint… as well as your electricity and gas bills!

Heat pump: Heating savings and alternative to air conditioner

The heat pump has several advantages. Here are the main ones:

  • A high-performance heating system, it allows you to reduce your annual heating costs by about 30% Used as dual energy with a hot air or oil unit, it is more like 45%*.
  • It allows for a reduction in the costs of air conditioning or completely replaces the air conditioner.
  • It is an environmentally friendly solution. By reducing consumption of electricity and fossil fuels like oil, the heat pump limits greenhouse gas production.

Note: Get informed on the Inverter technology in certain appliances, which provides greater energy savings and a more constant temperature.

*Based on an oil heating system with the average price of oil at 1 dollar per liter.

Central heat pump for air conditioning and heating

The heat pump is generally installed in homes fitted with air ducts. Air ducts allow the hot or cold air (as need be) to circulate uniformly in all rooms

It is made up of one part located outside of the residence (fan coil) and another located inside (evaporator).

The power of the heat pump is indicated in BTU. The power of a central heat pump is generally between 24 000 and 60 000 BTU.

During the first visit, our specialists will evaluate a number of parameters, such as the area of your home, the number of floors, the quality of the insulation, and the ceiling height, to determine the power your heat pump should have.

Also, to ensure that your heat pump provides the desired results, we check the state of your air ducts when we install the heat pump.

Wall-mounted heat pump for air conditioning and heating

If your home doesn’t have air ducts, you could choose to have a wall-mounted heat pump, which functions on the same principle as the central heat pump, but the interior part is installed on a wall, and circulates the air in the room or rooms. There are two available options in this category.

Mono-split heat pump: This type of appliance comprises one sole wall unit installed in the interior, generally in the main room (such as the living room), which is connected to an outdoor condensing unit. The mono-split system is recommended for open areas.

The power for this type of wall-mounted heat pump is generally between 9000 and 18 000 BTU.

Multi-split (or multi-zone heat pump)

This type of appliance is made up of many wall-mounted units, all relying on the same outdoor condenser. The multi-split appliance is recommended for homes in which most of the rooms are closed, and where rooms are spread out over more than one floor.

The power of this type of wall-mounted heat pump is generally between 18 000 and 36 000 BTU.
